Yes, but it takes more effort. Call your insurer before bidding — many standard policies won't cover engine swaps or significant suspension mods at full replacement cost. Specialty insurers like Hagerty or American Collectors cover heavily modified cars. Emissions testing requirements vary by state; California (CARB) has the strictest rules and many swaps are non-compliant.

Ask for receipts from the installing shop. Quality builders use known brands (Vortech, Whipple, Roush for forced induction; FOX, KW, Bilstein for suspension). Ask how many miles have been put on the build since the modifications. A high-quality turbo build with 500 miles is very different from one with 30,000 miles of street and track use.

Modified vehicles almost always sell below the cost of the modifications because the pool of buyers who want that exact build is small. A $10,000 turbo kit adds maybe $3,000–$5,000 in resale value. The exception is clean restomod builds (upgraded mechanicals, stock appearance) which often command a premium over stock because they're both reliable and original-looking.
